HOLIDAZE

Yes, yes, I know, glaciers move faster than I do on this blog and it's been eons since I've had a posting. Truth be told, I've been a bit lazy lately, plus the fact that operating sans camera is terribly aggravating. Well with Christmas approaching I've been more creative lately and I thought I'd share some of the hand crafted presents and do dads that will be going out in just a little more than a month.

This first creation of mine is actually a re-creation of a toy my aunt made me and my siblings one Christmas. Remember the book The Very Hungry Caterpillar? Dig deep in your memory, I know you remember it. Even if you don't the concept is obvious for anyone who has passed first grade science class: caterpillars turn into butterflies. This crocheted puppet turns inside out to reveal the before and after for the littlest of my nieces and nephews.

My three-year-old niece may have enjoyed the caterpillar/butterfly puppet and corresponding book, but I wanted to make her something a little more special.

When I was a little girl (actually before I can remember) my grandmother bought me a rag-doll that I have to this day. Her name was Elizabeth and she was a soft doll with a sweet embroidered face and a red and white dress and pinafore. I slept with that doll almost until my teen years. (Don't tell anyone!)

The only problem I ever had with that doll is that her clothes wouldn't come off. Get your mind out of the gutter! I just wanted to update her wardrobe once in a while. So for this present I not only created a cuddly doll with curls just like my niece, but she gets a starter wardrobe as well. Future presents for my niece are in the bag now. Doll clothes and more doll clothes.

Last but not least I want it to be known that I am finally ahead of the game this year. Last year I was a bum and sent out dollar store Christmas cards in my desperation to get them out in time. This year I was struck with a brilliant idea and was able to pound out this design in one night with very minimal research on Google. Sweet.

If you're on my Christmas card list then try to act surprised when this shows up in your mailbox.

Well, now that I've lowered everyone's expectations on how often I update this blog I'll see you all back in about three months, right? Or sooner.
