A stitch pattern from mypicot.com and some freeform shaping made the shell. Rich red fabric made the lining, and a large snap and some D-rings finished it off.More tawashis:

The white lace is just to show the corset-style lace-up alteration I made to the pattern, in lieu of buttons. (The pattern is “Hey, Teach” from knitty.com.)Geek alert!

Sewing?
Sewing is something I hardly ever do, but check it out.
Based on the needle holder from the SnB book, something to keep my DPNs in their right place. The fabric was from on hand, so not the greatest of colors (but it will do).
All rolled up and ready to go.There are many more projects in varying stages of completion at the moment. It’s been quite a wave of inspiration.
