KEEPING WARM AND STYLISH IN CROCHET

Back again for a quickie update between projects. At the moment I'm trying, with some success, to complete two projects at once, and although it is now officially the Christmas season I must admit that I am being totally selfish and working on more crochet clothing for myself. But that is for another post.

For now I'll show off what I can- a few new projects that have been keeping me looking somewhat stylish (and warm) as we come to the end of this year. But first and foremost I want to re-post on a former project.

This is the Rachel Swing Jacket from Blueprint Crochet. I posted this toasty crochet confection before, but without my dress form the presentation was a little flat. To do this project justice I wanted to show just how cute this jacket really is when it's on a human form.

When I first finished this jacket the weather was uncooperative and the idea of wearing an alpaca jacket was really just foolish. Well now I'm happy to report we are seeing below freezing temperatures in the Seattle area again and the jacket is now in proper rotation in my wardrobe.

These cute earrings came as somewhat of a surprise to me. It's actually a pattern I had seen many times before online, but eschewed as a somewhat childishly simple design. Well, let me eat my words now. These Dainty Earrings are pretty awesome made with silver-sparkle crochet thread and the best part is that I made a pair in less than a half hour!

And finally a new scarf. I am a believer in the idea that a woman can't have too many scarves to accessorize with so I'm always on the lookout for some novel new pattern to try. This time I became enamoured with the idea of working with ribbon yarn and after falling in love with this shiny white ribbon I went on a long and arduous search for an appropriate crochet pattern.

I had heard before that crochet and ribbon yarn were not the best of friends, but I was determined to use my ribbon yarn to make a lovely winter white scarf. For a succession of three nights I crocheted and frogged over and over trying broomstick lace, hairpin lace, and a variety of different stitch patterns. What ended up working the best was a pattern on the Crochet Me website which is a crochet version of a knit Drop Stitch Scarf. To give the pattern a little more variety I varied the lengths of the long rows. The result is a terrifically long and soft scarf that feels very fluffy and light.

Stay tuned for more projects!
